Securing the load: The “ears” (plastic parts) are not designed to handle the full strap loads. The strapping must go through the crossbar, not through those ears. Tensioning incorrectly could lead to breakage.

Legal/road safety: Overhangs sometimes are regulated (flags, lights). Extending cargo may require compliance with local road laws.
